Dubrovnik Airport is situated 22 km southern from Dubrovnik towards the border with Crna Gora, in Konavle Municipality, settlement Ćilipi. At the beginning of year 1936 the airport was built in settlement Gruda in Konavle Municipality and in 1960 it was transferred to today's location. During the Homeland war the airport stopped working for two years and even though it started its permanent work in 1992, its reconstruction lasted until 1995 when it was let into traffic by the state leadership. Since then Dubrovnik Airport has recorded the constant increase in arrivals and departments of passengers. That is why there was the necessity of expansion throughout the years. The biggest works were held in 2010 and the upgrade and expansion of passengers' terminal were finished in two years time. In 2014 the number of 1.6 million passengers was recorded and since the numbers are increasing from one year to another, with further investment in Airport the plan is to raise the capacity of passengers to 5.5 million per year and make Dubrovnik Airport the second airport in Croatia, immediately after Zagreb Airport.
